In 2012 Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) was introduced by Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) now called Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) along with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Under this scheme it is mandatory for manufacturers to get their products registered before launching them in market.
BIS Registration is essential for all the electronic products which are listed in Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) and If you want to sell the particular product in India.All manufacturers’regardless (foreign or Indian) need to apply for this registration to Import the product in India or for doing sales in to Indian market.

Wireless Planning & Coordination (WPC) Wing of the Ministry of Communications, created in 1952, is the licensing authority for amateur radio licenses, frequency spectrum, and any other wireless monitoring frequency spectrum in India.
The Equipment Type Approval is issued for radio devices operating in unlicensed frequency bands after checking their compliance with Indian Standards. Some of the technologies under de-licensed bands are, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RFID, NFC etc.
Products with radio and/or wireless functionalities which are imported or manufactured and marketed in India must have an Equipment Type Approval (ETA) & Import Licence (IL) certificate from the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) wing of the Ministry of Communications of the government of India . This includes products with Bluetooth, wireless local area network access technology (Wi-Fi), small digital radios (Zigbee), and radio frequency identification (RFID) among others.

Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications has notified “Indian Telegraph (Amendment) Rules” in Gazette of India vide G.S.R. 1131(E) PART XI” on 5th September 2017 which prescribes for Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecommunication Equipment (MTCTE). Any electronic or Telecommunication equipment that is used or capable of being implemented/deployed/used by any Telecommunication/telegraph establishment shall have to undergo Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecommunication Equipment (MTCTE) as per the respective Essential Requirements (ERs) published by telegraph authority from time to time.
